Expert tips for reliable fingerprint identification.

Ensuring Reliable Reads

While modern biometric readers are highly efficient, environmental factors—especially cold weather—can impact performance. Use these professional guidelines to ensure high-accuracy capturing and daily clocking.

The Golden Rule: Start with a Great Template

The accuracy of your reader starts with the initial capture. Ensure fingers are clean and warm. Capture at least two different fingers for each user to provide redundancy.

Daily Best Practices

  • Warm the finger: Rub vigorously against clothing to increase circulation.
  • Lubrication: Lightly touch your nose ridge or collarbone if the skin is too dry.
  • Placement: Cover the lens completely with the fleshy part of the fingertip.

Winter Maintenance

Cold weather causes skin to harden and crack, preventing a flat seal against the sensor. Do not push harder—this actually makes it worse. Instead, warm your hands in your pockets or with gloves before attempting to clock in.
